Jonatan Nästesjö & David Wenngren – Below
“If there’s a common thread to the recording, it’s the omnipresence of organ tones—even if the instrument’s familiar sound presents itself more as a soft exhalation that, lingering protractedly in the air, shimmers translucently in the album’s four ethereal settings… The material is also not bereft of melody, even if no one will come away from Below whistling a hook. Nevertheless, subtle wisps of melody do float through the pieces, melody being something more alluded to than voiced explicitly. All told, the recording, while short by CD standards, is as refined an example of ambient-drone as one might hope to find.” – Textura

“Thus, the fragility of subtly modulated texture of the four songs made by the two Swedish artists draw landscapes dotted with dense abstractions, in the form of puffs hypnotic modulations and enveloping sound that raise cathedrals in slight but constant crescendo.” – Music Won’t Save You

Below has the recurring theme of breathing and the sounds created from this theme having a blissful surging quality, growing cathedral-esque organs float effortlessly from almost silence to an epic conclusion… These slow drifting drones seem to make time stand still, ebbing and flowing with soothing effect.” – 8/10 according to Norman Records

“This set of mid-length rumbling drones begins with the utterly despairing ‘Something There’, which is followed by the brighter ‘Feel Nothing’, which seems to have exotic woodwind placed through a multitude of effects. The result is majestic; a swirling, textured fanfare. ‘Before I Leave’ restores a sense of murk but with an ethereal feel and then ‘Still Nothing Moves You’ closes with dramatic effect. Gently dramatic, at that. Here, ‘Below’ is at its most powerful and possibly its most uplifting as the angelic tones soar inside your ears.” – Irregular Crates

“The ambient drones seem to swell up to great proportions and then slowly disappear into nothingness in brilliant style, making ‘Below’ an interesting and enjoyable ambient album.” – 4/5 according to The CD Critic

“Starting soothing and almost unnoticeable, the tracks become very present bodies of melodious sounds, with organ chords slowly breathing in and out again… The music is as beautiful as the cover image itself.” – AmbientBlog

“From the first gentle whispers of the ineffable Something There to the broadest fullness of choral passages of Still Nothing Moves You this album presents an ever-changing yet serene oasis of sound… Whether leaving a listener with a feeling of walking through a quiet forest (as depicted on the album’s cover), on foot in gentle breezes at a beach or escaping to another realm, Below is a fulfilling and tranquil way to leave the here, for the there.” – Wajobu

“As you can expect, especially in the soundscaping label, the music on this new album of the duo is not exactly cheerful. But wonderful! They spend four elongated desolate soundscapes somewhere between ambient, drones and neoclassical. It’s all very beautiful and fragile. An enchanting treasure!” – De Subjectivisten

Jonatan Nästesjö – Leaves Never Leave
“Talking about no track in particular, Jonatan bristles along the edges of sheer beauty throughout the album. He retains a great sense of tentativeness about these pieces, gently probing the subtle. Jonatan’s album smells of Sweden. It is terrifically evocative, blissfully busy in execution. Clips of the woods and birdsong teem with chiming guitars, sweeping about the shoreline. This record is really good, it’s really, really good; it makes me want to shake the rails, to bike ride, eat all the fridge and see my friends. In short, it’s heavily inspiring and heaving with inspiration.” – diskant

“For ‘I’ll Tell You A Story’, the faraway vocals are reminiscent of the skewed pop of His Name Is Alive whereas ‘Fields’ is a lengthy drone excursion given shades of lights by bird noise. Yet, however fascinating his experimentation sounds, Nästesjö tends to fare best the more he sticks to a structured framework. On the gorgeous ‘At My Windows’ there are ghosts of animated childrens’ programmes as acoustic guitars compete with primitive alien noise whilst ‘Waiting For Bus And Boat’ is a wonderful moment of romantic bliss.” – Leonard’s Lair

“Jönköpings Jonatan Nästesjö gör drömsömnig elektronisk musik med lite sång, lite gitarr och massor av puttriga, dråniga, sprakiga ljud. Hemtamt, vackert, njutbart.” soundofmusic.nu
